CHANGE ANALYSIS SUPPORTS STUDENT ACTION AND THE STUDY OF HISTORY
Empowering students to have agency in their world requires introducing and reinforcing the concepts and skills of social analysis and change-making. These should be as foundational in history education as learning about claim and evidence, source analysis, or writing persuasive arguments.
This section presents of a set of change-analysis 'lenses' to help students explore their development of identity, research problems and possible solutions, analyze structures and systems of power, investigate the role of various stakeholders, and the learn how change is realized.
Each analytical lens includes:
- An overview of the concepts, strategies, and scaffolds by which students can learn and apply these analytical lenses.
- Instructions and examples illustrating how these can be taught and reinforced through, and in the service of, the study of course content.
- Examples applied both to the development and execution of a civic action project, where appropriate.
